FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How should I prepare for my spray tan?

To get the most out of your spray tan, shower and exfoliate thoroughly the night before your appointment using exfoliating gloves or a mitt. Complete any shaving or waxing 24–48 hours beforehand. If you need to shower the same day, aim for at least 4 hours before your appointment and use cool or lukewarm water. Avoid Dove, Olay, and harsh bar soaps, as they can leave behind residue that may interfere with your tan. Arrive with clean, dry, product-free skin-no lotions, oils, deodorant, perfume, or makeup.

How many days before an event should I schedule my spray tan?

For most events, we recommend getting your spray tan 1–2 days beforehand so your color has time to fully develop. For weddings, 2-3 days before the big day is ideal.

When should I get a manicure, pedicure or other beauty services done?

Waxing, manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, and other beauty services should be done at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. A spray tan should always be last on your list of beauty appointments.

What should I wear to my appointment and during it?

Please wear long, dark, loose-fitting clothing. Flip-flops or loose socks with slides or slip-on shoes are ideal. Skip the leggings, tight bras, or anything that could rub against your tan while it’s developing.

During your appointment, you can tan in as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.  You can wear a bathing suit, underwear and/or a bra, or go nude. Just keep in mind that the thickness and style of your underwear or bra straps will determine what your tan lines look like. Men must wear boxers, briefs, or shorts.

When can I shower after my tan?

It depends on the solution you choose.

Signature Tan: Rinse in 10–12 hours.
Express Tan: Rinse in 2–8 hours, depending on your desired depth of color.
Your artist will let you know the best rinse time based on your desired results.

First Rinse: Take a short, quick shower with lukewarm water and use your hand to guide the bronzer off. Rinse until the water runs clear. You can use soap where necessary but avoid using it all over your body during the first rinse.

Choose the right body wash: Avoid Dove, Olay, Bath & Body Works, and bar soaps—they can strip or streak your tan. We recommend gentle, sulfate-free body washes such as Method or Native. We also carry spray tan-safe Glo Bar cleansing bars in studio.

Pat dry: After rinsing, gently pat yourself dry with a towel. Don’t rub!

Moisturize daily: After your first rinse, begin to moisturize daily with a lotion free of mineral oil to extend the life of your tan and keep it looking even.

Go easy on exfoliating products: Retinol, acne products, exfoliating acids, physical exfoliants, and products containing mineral oil can cause your spray tan to fade faster. If these are part of your regular routine, just keep in mind that they may shorten the life of your tan.

How long does a spray tan last?

A spray tan typically lasts 7–10 days with proper prep and aftercare. Your tan may last longer if you take extra good care of your skin. Hydration is key! Moisturize daily and avoid harsh exfoliants, long hot showers, and soaking in water to help extend the life of your spray tan.

Will a spray tan protect me from the sun?

Nope! Spray tan solutions contain zero SPF, therefore, they do not provide any protection from UV rays. While your skin may look sun kissed, it can still burn when exposed to the sun. It’s easy to feel a false sense of security with a fresh tan, but don’t skip the SPF! We carry spray tan safe sunscreen in studio to help protect your skin without compromising your tan.

Can I go swimming or in the ocean with my tan?

Yes, you can! Just keep in mind that salt water, chlorine, and pool or hot tub chemicals can cause your spray tan to fade faster. After swimming, rinse your skin with fresh water and moisturize as soon as possible to help extend the life of your tan.

Will the spray tan come off on my clothes or sheets?

We recommend wearing long, loose-fitting, dark clothing after your spray tan. If the bronzer transfers to clothes or sheets, it is water-soluble and should come out in the wash.

Can I get a spray tan while pregnant or breastfeeding?

We spray tan pregnant and nursing women all the time, but we always recommend consulting with your doctor first! We offer nose filters and proper ventilation for added comfort during your appointment. If you’re breastfeeding, we suggest wearing a top or keeping the chest covered during your tan.
